Ambon, Aug 18 (AntaraMaluku) - The security situation in Maluku, especially in the provincial city of Ambon, continues to improve, according to Pattimura Military Commander Major General Doni Monardo.

"The security situation continues to improve, and the frictions and conflicts between villages in the last one year have dropped dramatically," Monardo remarked here on Thursday.

Monardo noted that the area was prone to conflicts, especially those between villages in the past several years, but currently, the security situation was showing improvement.

He said the approach adopted by military personnel in their interactions with the local community was also improving to identify the root causes of past conflicts.

The pattern of this kind of approach is expected to offer new hope to the people in this area, especially to the families that had experienced emotional turmoil during the three-year sectarian conflict in the province that claimed thousands of lives and caused material losses from 1999 to 2002.

"Obviously, we do not want such a sectarian conflict to recur in Maluku. We saw new hope for the future in terms of the security conditions remaining conducive. Let us harbor a new spirit to build a future that is full of hope while maintaining a good and conducive security situation," Monardo noted.
