Ambon, Maluku, June 22 (Antara)- An earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter Scale jolted Ambon Island, and forced local inhabitants to rush out of their homes in panic, on Thursday at 7:52 a.m. local time.
The quake`s epicenter was located 3.61 degree southern latitude and 128.27 degree eastern longitude, around 16 km northeast of Ambon City, according to the Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on its official website.
The tremor, which took place on land, was felt by local inhabitants at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity), causing panic-stricken people to run away.
"We are worried of aftershocks, therefore we took our children out of home," Ola Simauw, a resident of Passo, said.
There were no immediate reports of damages.
