Ambon, Maluku, Dec 22 (ANTARA News) - A police detainee Asali alias Sali (36), who was charged with raping own daughter, has been caught by police in Sorong, West Papua after escaping from Ambon where he was to hear the court verdict.
"Asali was arrested by Sorong police and was brought back to Ambon today to serve his jail term," a Maluku prosecution office spokesman Sammy Sapulette said here.
After Asali escaped on Dec. 10 , the Ambon district court decided to proceed with the reading of the verdict that gave him a punishment of 18 years in jail .
Asali jumped out when the police car that brought him stopped in front of the Court House and ran to Wahai in the district of Maluku Tengah and apparently hid there before he managed to find a way out by boarding a ferry on its way to Sorong.
However, police in Sorong had been notified of his escape. The court also punished Asali with a fine of Rp60 million or an additional jail term of one year.
