Ambon, Maluku, Nov 30 (Antara) - The Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (KORPRI) needs to reinforce its existence, competence, and performance in serving the community, according to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"It is not easy, but the members of KORPRI should constantly serve the community well with sincerity," the president noted in a written statement read out by Maluku Provincial Social Welfare Assistant Ujir Halid during the commemoration of KORPRI`s 44th anniversary here on Monday.

According to the president, the pros and cons of public services lay in the hands of the KORPRI members, in the hopes of improving the quality of public services being offered to today`s society.

"Therefore, the members of KORPRI, as the state apparatus, are required to provide quick, easy, and measurable public services since I believe they are able to deliver them," the president stated.

President Jokowi revealed he had already implemented several steps, such as encouraging the transformation of Indonesia`s economic fundamentals through policies to change the consumption-based economy to a production-based economy, accelerating targeted programs for poverty alleviation, and encouraging more equitable development outside Java, among others.

"The development of road infrastructure, ports, airports, new crossings, sea toll network, and others will continue to be accelerated. Likewise, the efforts to realize self-sufficiency through the construction of new dams, the transfer of technology, facilitation of agricultural facilities, and the construction of an irrigation network to reach new paddy fields will continue to be carried out," he said.
