Ternate, Aug 21 (Antara Maluku) - A shipyard project in Sidangoli, regency of West Halmahera, North Maluku will be fully financed by investor with the district administration to provided the location.
"In addition to location, the district administration is to build supporting infrastructure especially access road to the project of shipbuilding facility," head of the Industry and Trade Office of West Halmahera Martinus Jawa said here on Monday.
Originally, the district administration asked the Central Government to build the project, but recently there was an investors found the project having good prospects, Martinus said.
He said he could not yet say the amount of fund to be invested by the unnamed investor, but he added the project implementation would not be later than next year.
The district administration especially shipowners have long expected the building of a shipbuilding facility in that region. So far they have to go to other provinces for the repair of their ships.
"The province of North Maluku badly need a dockyard to repairs ships both passenger, cargo and fishing ships." he said, adding the region also needs additional ships especially fishing ships.
For West Halmahera, the shipbuilding project if implemented would greatly contribute to the district income and opening new jobs, he said.
Martinus Jawa said the location for the project is already long made available. The investor would have no problem in land clearing, which has often caused a drag in the implementation of projects in various in other areas in the country.
