Ambon, Maluku, March 21 (Antara) - Several cyclists from 38 countries have confirmed their participation in the Tour de Molvccas (TdM) to be held in Maluku Province on September 18-22, 2017.

The international cycling and touring event will cover the Trans Seram route, Bobby Palapia, spokesman of the Maluku Provincial Administration, stated here, Tuesday.

Several foreign cyclists have frequently participated in cycling events included those part of the Union Cycliste Internasionale calendar.

He is optimistic that the event would be able to attract more than 100 participants, as the central government has intensified the TdM promotion campaign.

"Trans Seram has amazing natural beauty, is suitable for adventure, has awesome seas, and cultural as well as historical sites, with attractive characteristics that will be able to charm the participants of the event," he noted.

The Association of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association has expressed its support to the event that will cover Ambon Island, Western Seram (SBB), Central Maluku, and Eastern Seram (SBT) districts.

The event will feature four stages. The first stage will start from Piru, the capital of SBB, and proceed to Masohi, the capital of Central Maluku, and Sawai, the capital of North Seram.

The second stage will start from Sawai and proceed to Bula, the capital of SBT.

The third stage will start from Bula and proceed to Wahai, and the fourth stage will start from Liang and finish at the Merdeka Square, Ambon Island.

Maluku Governor Said Assagaff has called on the district administrations of SBB, Central Maluku, and SBT as well as the Ambon Municipality to help in the successful implementation of the event.

The preparations for TdM had begun in April 2016.
