London, UK, Sep 14 (Antara) - The Museumsquartier (MQ) Vienna Fashion Week 2017, held at the Museumsquartier in Vienna, Austria, featured a number of traditional Indonesian woven fabrics created by Austrian professional models.
The fashion week is an international fashion event held by Creative Headz, supported by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, held annually in Vienna, according to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Vienna received by Antara here on Thursday.
Indonesian Ambassador to Austria, Darmansjah Djumale, stated that Indonesia's participation in MQ Vienna Fashion Week had deep meanings in terms of historical and cultural values, which are all contained in the traditional woven fabrics.
Indonesian designers who participated in MQ Vienna Fashion Week were Handy Hartono, Lulu Lutfi Labibi, and a leather bag designer, Ervina Husin.
Each designer featured 22 spring and summer collections in 2018. Labibi displayed a collection named "Odyssey," with drapery techniques on fabric produced by craftsmen from Klaten, Central Java.
Meanwhile, Hartono displayed a collection called "Eco Eastern," which were made using hand-woven fabric from East Nusa Tenggara, combined with typical Toraja cloths (South Sulawesi) with strong red shades.
The traditional East Nusa Tenggara weaving was also used by Ervina for her leather bag collection themed "Maumere: Treasure from the East," which featured fabric woven with natural colors from Maumere.
One of Creative Headz's leaders as well as the curator of MQ Vienna Fashion Week, Zigi Mueller Matyas, remarked that Indonesian designers' collections were very prominent.
According to her, the textiles materials, colors, and weaving techniques made those Indonesian collections very fascinating.
Fashion in Austria tends to use dark colors like black and white or pastel colors. "A lot of Austrians are not aware that the color of clothing can affect the mood and using bright colors, like the ones you use, can make us happier. I admire it," she explained.
Meanwhile, Lisa Niedermayr of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts was very interested in the use of indigo colors, which was featured in Labibi's Odyssey collection.
"We are working on a UNESCO project on Indigo-themed textiles and look forward to working with Indonesian designers," she revealed.
