Ambon, Maluku, July 1 (Antara) - The Ministry of Transportation has approved a budget of Rp45 billion for the renovation of the Pattimura International Airport.

"The budget aims at supporting the renovation, which will be carried out until 2018, in order to optimize the airport's services," General Manager of PT. Angkasa Pura I at Pattimura airport Marvin Butar-Butar stated here on Friday.

The renovation project includes expansion of the waiting room and terminal as well as installation of additional aerobridges.

"The renovation will improve services, such as immigration, quarantine, and customs, offered by the Pattimura International Airport," Marvin remarked.

Marvin pointed out that by offering such facilities of international standard, the Pattimura airport will be able to handle direct flights from abroad.

"We are waiting for any airlines to start flights on international routes as Angkasa Pura I is ready to provide optimal services at Pattimura airport," Marvin pointed out.

According to Marvin, the facilities offered at the Pattimura International Airport met the standards set by the Ministry of Transportation.

"The operations of the Pattimura International Airport are intensively audited by the ministry to ensure that the facilities and services are working optimally," Marvin remarked.

Meanwhile, PT. Angkasa Pura I at Pattimura airport has started operating a service post from June 24 to July 17, 2016, to welcome Eid.

The Eid service post involves personnel from PT. Angkasa Pura I, military, police, other flight operation-related institutions, quarantine officials, and medics.

"The Eid service post helps passengers and also coordinates with the airlines in order to ensure smooth operations of homecoming trips," Marvin added.
