Ambon, Maluku, Dec 15 (Antara) - The mayor of Ambon, Richard Louhenapessy, and several members of the Regional Legislative Assembly (DPRD) will leave for the Netherlands on Saturday to explore cooperation in clean water management and handling.

"We will leave for the Netherlands on Saturday to gain first-hand information on clean water management and handling before following up with the signing of the cooperation agreement," Louhenapessy remarked here on Thursday.

According to the mayor of Ambon, this visit is a follow up of the Maluku Structure Forum in Rotterdam, which was organized by the Indonesian Embassy in the Netherlands for the benefit of Maluku, particularly the city of Ambon, with regard to the handling of clean water and garbage.

On his previous visit to the Netherlands last August, the Dutch government presented an ideal, inexpensive clean-water management process proposal.

The mayor of Ambon wishes to follow up on this proposal and to obtain first-hand information on the clean-water management process in the Netherlands.

"The Dutch are experts in clean-water management and handling, so some cities in Indonesia, such as Makassar and Balikpapan, have applied the same management system as the Netherlands," he said.

Louhenapessy revealed that finding clean water in Ambon will become a serious problem in the next five to 10 years when the city is expected to experience a clean-water crisis.

Therefore, he noted, the Ambon municipal government has a favorable view of this cooperation opportunity with the Netherlands, where the DPRD has been invited to learn how to handle the clean-water system.
