The Commander of the 1507/Saumlaki Military District Command, Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Heryawan, here on Wednesday stated that the certified Torem was a donation from the 1507 / Saumlaki Military District Command for the Bogor Botanical Garden on Oct 24, 2017.
According to him, the certification is a new history because Torem tree is a rare species, which is almost extinct.
"We enquired the Bogor Botanical Garden on whether this tree was already registered, and it turned out that this tree had not been registered for 200 years since the Bogor Botanical Gardens was established in 1817," he revealed.
Ryan explained that according to LIPI, Torem tree is categorized as an Endangered A1 species.
In order to preserve Torem, the Military District Command will cultivate the tree and plant it on Yamdena Island.
"We have done seeding for a year, and now there are 2 thousand Torem seedlings ready for planting in 2018," he stated.
