Ambon, Maluku, Dec 29 (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale jolted Seram Island and Ambon, Maluku Province, on Tuesday at 1:26 a.m. local time, forcing panic-stricken local inhabitants to rush out of their houses.

"The quake`s epicenter was located 25 km east of Ambon Island, or 38 km south of Kairatu, Western Seram," Head of the Observation Section of the Maluku Meteorology and Geophysics Office Lukito said here, Tuesday.

The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km, therefore the local inhabitants could feel it strongly, at an intensity of III and IV MMI.
