Ambon, Maluku, May 25 (Antara) - The Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa has urged the people not to spread photos of the suicide bombings that hit Kampung Melayu, Jakarta, on Wednesday night.
"I ask the residents not to spread photos and videos of terror acts that occurred in Kampung Melayu, because this causes the irresponsible persons to think that (their acts have spread out to scare people)," the minister said while visiting the Batu Koneng refugees camp on Thursday.
Photos and videos of the terror acts must not be spread out, because the perpetrator`s target is to instill fear in the community. What must be built is a sense of security, calm, and peace, she disclosed.
"After the bombings happened at around 21:00 p.m. local time, I received photos of the incident. I have warned friends who sent the photos because within seconds, minutes, or hours such action had been spread out in the social media," Khofifah explained.
The country`s citizens should build awareness together, so that any forms of violence would be prevented, she stated.
Ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan, the minister asked the community to build and improve vigilance and guard against shared threats that disrupt harmony among the citizens.
In addition, Khofifah distributed compensation of Rp15 million to the families of those killed as well as to the families of those injured in the attack.
Earlier, the Indonesian Police confirmed that five people, comprising three police personnel and two suspected suicide bombers, were killed in the twin bomb blasts.
Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, spokesman of the national Police Headquarters, revealed here on Thursday that 11 people, comprising six police personnel and five civilians, were injured in the bomb attack.
The five civilians were drivers of public vehicles, two female university students, and an employee of a state enterprise.
The victims were rushed to the Premier Jatinegara Hospital, Said Sukanto Kramat Jati Police Hospital, Budi Asih Hospital, and Hermina Hospital that were located nearby.
The two bombs exploded at 9 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. local time, respectively.
The police officers, who were killed and were injured, were on duty to guard a group of people who were holding a torch parade to welcome the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. The parade had not yet passed by when the blasts occurred.
