Ambon (Antara Maluku) - A moderate quake measuring 5.7 Richter Scale hits Maluku Barat Daya district here on Saturday at 7.32 pm Eastern Indonesia Standard Time (WIT).
According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) the quake was centered at 7.95 southern latitude and 128.05 eastern longitude at the depth of 13 kilommeters below sea.
Secretary to the province`s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Kifly Wakanno said he is still waiting for data of destruction caused by the Saturday earthquake.
Due to its location at the meeting of three big plates namely the Pacific, Indo Australia and Eurasia, Maluku province is prone to be hit by natural disasters such as earthquake and tsunami.
