Ambon, Maluku, Nov 20 (Antara) - The governments of Ambon city in Maluku province and Vlissingen in the Netherlands will extend sister city cooperation, which has been ongoing since 2006.

"Albert Vader, the deputy mayor of Vlissingen, is now in Ambon to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the extension of the sister city cooperation," spokesman of the Ambon city government Anthony Gustaf Latuheru remarked here on Thursday.

He noted that Mayor of Ambon Richard Louhenapessy and Albert Vader of Vlissingen will sign the MoU to improve and extend the cooperation.

Latuheru pointed out that the Ambon-Vlissingen sister city cooperation, established since 2006, has focused on improving waste management, hygiene, environment, health, and education.

"The signing of the MoU on the extension of sister city cooperation can provide added value to the development of the city of Ambon in future," he stated.

According to the spokesman, the visit of Vlissingen`s deputy mayor to Ambon is expected to further strengthen sister city cooperation not only in the fields of health and education but also in other areas.

"Our cooperation is expected to increase in the fields of fisheries and tourism," he said, adding that the cooperation is also believed to advance education and improve the health of the people in Ambon.
