Ambon, Maluku, Aug 9 (Antara) - The yachts participating in the Darwin-Ambon Yacht Race (DAYR) 2016 will be departing from Darwin seaport, Australia on August 13 at 11.00 local time.
"The first yacht is expected to arrive at the finish line on Amahusu beach, Nusiwane, on Monday morning or afternoon (Aug 15), depending on the wind," the Secretary of Ambon city administration, A.G.Latuheru, said here on Tuesday.
The head of the Ambon tourism office, Hendrik Sopacua, will attend the event as a representative of the Ambon city administration.
DAYR 2016 will see 18 yachts, while last year there were 22.
"The first yacht arriving at the finish line will be welcomed by the Ambon mayor, Angku Papilaya, and the locals, along with various traditional attractions," Latuheru said.
After all participants arrive at Amahusu beach, he added, they will have a gala dinner and participate in sport programs which have been scheduled by the local and Darwin organizers.
According to Latuheru, the participants, along with the local residents, will compete in friendship sports.
On August 19, there will be a trophy awarded to the winners and a promotion of the 18th Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang (South Sumatra province).
